No one has ever accused Judith Patten of being a shy retiring flower. Having done a charity ‘wingwalk’ last year in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust, the former president of the Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) took advantage of a discount – do another wingwalk within a year! – to take to the air again, this time for the SUT’s Bil Loth doctoral grant fund.
If you didn’t know Bil, you can go back in this blog’s archive and find my two articles about the godfather of subsea engineering and the man who mixed a love for fast cars and chilis with a passion for education. The fund needs topping up, so join me in supporting this fundraiser. Just go to the JustGiving home page and search for Judith Patten and the fundraising page will appear.
It will soon be two years since Bil’s passing and creating a significant fund woulde certainly be an appropriate tribute to one of the significant figures in the subsea world who just happened to be one of my good friends.

I would like to clarify a point in a recent blog. Brian Skeels, despite his grandiose title of ‘fellow’, apparently still has his nose to the grindstone for TechnipFMC. But don’t work too hard, Brian!
