Well spoke, Steve. As a fellow veteran oil hack, I endorse your freedom of the press message on all fronts.
Wowsers Steve – why don’t you say what you really think 🙂
Seriously though (and I completely agree that the current signals are potentially very serious on a good many fronts) it’s great to have our old Steve back in the fray once again, with no holds barred! How dull the whole industry would (will?) be without such bold thought-provoking observations.
I summarised my perspective on the initial WoS developments some episodes ago (the ones about life after Offshore Europe)
I also acknowledged John D’s observation that I have indeed perhaps been one of the more outspoken members of the subsea community over the decades, when I saw things that I believed needed more consideration and reflection by the industry at large, in order to help it help itself improve.
This whole trend now by many when put in very powerful positions by popular demand, to try to gag and edit what the great wide world get informed truthfully about, is imho something that the rest of us need to come out from under our “shell” to highlight and push back on collectively – just as indeed the journalists did at No.10 this week. Well done for not shying from raising the issue fairly and squarely on this forum.
I don’t expect we will see many further comments offered openly here, but I’ll be happy if all who read the piece just sit back and reflect a little on the implications of it all.
Oh gosh, I’ve lost my shell to crawl back under now ?
I can’t believe you managed to find a picture of you and me putting out the old Subsea Newsletter. The original Water Gate.
